So, you’ve chanced upon Avon and you wanted to know if it is the right business opportunity for you to dive into.
You’ve heard many hyped up stories about the wealth it has generated for someone else, and you thought if it is too good to be true.
First, I would like to congratulate you for landing on this review. Not many people will do their research before joining, and you are the exceptional one.
In this review, I am going to share with you everything you need to know in order for you to make an informed decision.
As you probably know, Avon is a well known brand, and it has been on the market since 1886.
If you ask me, any kind of scams wouldn’t stand the test of time. Avon is definitely legit.
Wait! But, why are so many people claiming that it is a scam?
Although the company is legit, it doesn’t mean that this business opportunity is suitable for you.
Many have dived into the Avon’s business opportunity not knowing what they are getting into.
And, when things turned sour, and it is not what they’ve expected, they put the blame to the company.

Not only one of the largest MLM companies, Avon is also one of the oldest MLM company that survived to this date.
Avon was founded by David McConell in the year 1886.
He started as a door to door salesman selling the very first product, no surprise, perfume.
He partnered with Alexander Henderson and named the company as the California Perfume Company in 1894.
Fast forward a few decades, the name was changed to Avon in 1932 up until now.
Avon is now led by CEO, Sheri McCoy and the head office are based in London.
The company as of now has expanded all over the world with 6.5 million members under their care.
As of 2016, they have garnered revenue of $5.7 billion.
The Latest news suggests that Sheri McCoy may step down from Avon next year and currently in search for the next successor.
Avon and its Products
Avon’s main selling point is their beauty products.
Over the years, they expanded into personal care, apparel, fashion accessories, toiletries and household items.
Some of their best selling products include the following:
- Avon BASICS – body lotion, lip balm
- Avon MOISTURE – hand cream
- Avon SKIN – sunscreen lotion

Now, this section is what you’ve been waiting for. The reasons why 95% of the Avon’s representatives fail.
As a standard across all cosmetic Multi-Level Marketing industry, approximately 95% of the representatives did not earn a substantial amount from the business opportunity.
Most representatives have the mindset of having a part-time business that will eventually outgrow their current source of income, but the fact is that the majority of them makes less than $1,500 per month, and a good 60% to 70% of the representatives didn’t make any money at all.
I’ve joined several MLM companies and tried many methods to succeed, but find myself stuck. Through personal experience, here are some of the main reasons that cause a representative to fail:
1. Having the Wrong Mindset
Many aspiring Avon distributors joined the venture with the hope that it will earn without much effort.
One issue with many is over relying on social media.
They tend to think that by posting and share posts of their items and products magically earn new sales.
The chances of this are as steep as 1% if you target the wrong group/community.
Another reason is that they did not realize MLM is push marketing.
Without pushing your product to others, there is no way to get others to buy from you.
Imagine there are 6.5 million Avon members out there. The number of competitors is beyond measure.
Also, many representatives join the business venture because they were preached by their sponsor (the person who recommends you to Avon) that they will be taken care of as long as they join.
This culture has led to many new representatives being dependent on their sponsors. Practically holding their sponsors responsible for their own success.
The fact is that, due to the high turnover rate in this business, sponsors are more inclined to recruit new representatives than to train and groom existing ones.
Truth be told, if you don’t show interest in your own success, who would?
2. Lack of New Leads
I bet most representatives were taught this strategy when they first join the business:
- Write a list of people (from your social circle) whom you think will benefit from the products of Avon;
- Write a separate list of people whom you think will be interested in the business opportunity;
- Start by contacting the people from the lists and fix an appointment with them;
- Keep following up with the people who did not buy from you.
The problem with this strategy is that it is centuries old, and it might not work in this day and age.
People back then didn’t know much about MLM, and were not as receptive as the people today.
In this day and age, whenever people hear the word “MLM”, they will shun away. Even if the products of the MLM company are dang amazing.
If you only depend on your social circle, you will soon find yourself running out of prospects.
As you know, to be successful in this business, you have to have a constant flow of new prospects.
Going online might be a solution, but only if you know how to do it. Which leads me to the next issue.
3. Joining the Wrong Team
This business is not a solo adventure, at least not at the beginning.
You would need strong leadership to back you up when you are in need.
If your leader tends to ignore your track, you wouldn’t even know what mistake you made. You could not learn from their experience.
As I’ve mentioned above, your sponsors are probably more interested in recruiting new representatives than to nurture you.
Before you join this business venture, you need to ensure that you are joining the right team.
A team who would put your interest ahead of theirs, and a team who would teach you how to source for new prospects (being online or offline).

The first step to becoming an Avon representative is to try the products. Don’t be enticed by the hype, and don’t join the company not knowing that the products work for you.
How do you expect your customers to believe you when you don’t believe that the products work, right?
I would suggest that you try the products for at least a month, and if the products work for you, then you can consider joining the business opportunity.
Next, although the products work, it doesn’t mean that you’ll be successful in the business.
It takes more than believing to earn from this company. It is through hard work and sheer determination that will lead you to success.
If you are not those who can stomach a large amount of rejection, you shouldn’t be in this business.
Moreover, there are possibilities that your friends will start shunning away when you start introducing Avon to them.
If you are serious about joining Avon, be sure that you do not make the same mistakes other representatives made (as I’ve highlighted above).
