Absolutely not! Amway was founded in 1959 by Rich Devos and Jay Van Andel and it is world renown in the MLM business till date.

If it was a scam, it would have been shut down a long time ago.

Till this day, I still hear people calling Amway a scam and I guess I know the reason why.

Those people called Amway a scam because they were given false information (hope) by their upline or sponsor.

They were told that they can make lots of money without putting in much effort and hard work.

Truth be told, there is no such thing as “becoming rich without work”, unless you struck the lottery.

Especially in an MLM opportunity, it requires a ton of hard work upfront to see some results.

Many people who joined Amway were not conditioned to think like a businessman, and many were not exactly ready for Amway, which is why more than 95% of the distributors fail.

Like any other MLM opportunities, its training and support are segregated by many different teams.

Each team has its own way of management style, training, strategies, etc, which is one of the reasons I dislike MLM opportunities.

It is really hard to find a good team of people or a mentor who put your interest first.

As you may know, being in an MLM opportunity requires you to sell products, whether you like it or not.

The ability to sell is the core fundamental of the business.

If you are not ready to be a salesperson or you hate to be one, then Amway is definitely not for you.

There is a better alternative for people who hate to be a salesperson.

But, if you desire to be an Amway distributor, it will take a great leader or mentor to groom you to become a star player in the team.

Unfortunately, it is extremely hard to find a great leader, one who takes care of you training and ensure that you become successful under his/her wing.

Can Amway make you rich?

It is extremely hard to be successful with Amway, that is unless you are already a successful MLM marketer who would bring all of your downlines from other MLM companies over to Amway.

Many factors come into play to be a successful distributor.

Firstly, you have to think like a businessman and act like a salesperson.

Secondly, you need to have a great mentor who is willing to coach you to success.

Thirdly, you need to be flexible to change. Your belief system might be different from your mentor, so you have to be open to whatever changes your mentor suggest.

Fourth, you need to cultivate the “Never Give Up” mindset.

Lastly, you need to be extremely hard working. Of course, there might be some other factors that I have not mentioned.

If you’ve noticed, most of the factors that I have mentioned are person attributes.

If you have the right personality for the business, you will attract the right mentor to you.

I take this opportunity to remind you that there is no easy way out to becoming rich, one has to be hard working and persistent to find success.

If you believe you can find success without much hard work and perseverance, I wish you luck on your journey (here’s my sarcasm).

My Personal Experience with an Amway Distributor

It was back in the day when I was an insurance agent who was hungry for success, and I was approached by my army mate who was an Amway Distributor.

My focus was really to sell him insurance and his focus was to get me into his team.

So we had different agenda, but I guess we both succeeded in one way or another.

One take away was that I agreed to buy his Amway products to test before I consider joining Amway.

So, I bought a span of products ranging from tooth brush and tooth paste to health supplements.

Well, I have tried the products but it didn’t impress me.

I spent a few hundred dollars for the products and tried them for well over a month.

Results? I felt no difference…

I met with my army mate again and told him that I will not be joining his team, but however, he was still insistent.

Well, I gave him my true and honest opinion on the Amway opportunity.

I said, there are several reasons why I do not wish to join Amway.

The main reason was because I did not want to sell products to people when I did not personally benefit from it. It’s just unethical.

There are so many other brands of products on the market which are highly competitive in terms of the price and the quality.

Amway’s products just do not have that unique competitive edge, in my opinion.

Secondly, because there is such a wide range of products, there is hardly any focus.

Imagine going up to a prospect who wants to buy facial products from you and you started blabbering about pots and pans, shampoo, etc.

If you are the prospect, how will you feel?

Thirdly, the most common way to sell or recruit people into Amway is through friends and family.

I never wanted my friends and family to be involved in my business because I value the kinship and friendship deeply, so how should I go about doing this business? Should I start making cold calls?

Well, after I’ve share my piece, he was still not convinced and he kept insisting to make the next appointment with me, and sounded really desperate till the point I said enough is enough.

You see, I was quite close to my Army mate before he started pestering me into his business and our relationship went downhill after that.

If you are those who wouldn’t mind being a pest to your friends and break ties with them (if they do not join you), well then, you are probably the right person for the business.

My Sincere Advice to You

Amway is definitely not a scam and it truly provides you with an opportunity to make money.

However, there are always two sides to a coin.

In order to make good money with Amway, there are sacrifices to be made.

Your time, energy and most probably your relationships with good friends and family could be sacrificed.

Unless your friends and family understands what you are doing and supports you, you will most likely have a hard time doing this business.

There are also other factors which I have mentioned above that can either bring you to success or push you to failure.

So, if you think you are ready to be an Amway Distributor, great! I truly wish you well and hope for you success.
